John Lewis inspires you to be great

leadership Aug 17, 2017

Recently I had the privilege to listen to my Congressman, The Honorable John Lewis, U. S. Congressman, from Georgia's 5th District address a packed room of engaged citizens.

John Robert Lewis is an American politician and is a prominent civil rights leader. He is the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district, serving since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation.

Afterwards, he patiently posed for pictures with various groups of people; including kids, teachers, members of the military, senior citizens, elected officials, and others.  It was inspiring to observe how John Lewis engaged with so many diverse people and seemed to make everyone around him feel special.

He simply inspires you to be great by sharing his personal story of triump, perserverance and integrity.

I was fortunate to be able to take a photo with my Congressman.

When Congressman Lewis posed with some members of the military, I shared with The Congressman how proud I am of him. I thanked him for his dedicated service and his lifetime of community service and his many sacrifices.

Although, I have heard it said many times during my 26 years of honorable active duty service and during the past 2 years of my wonderful retirement, tonight hearing the civil rights icon, John Lewis say, "Thank You for Your Service" made me smile a little broader.

I was able to talk to my pre-teen son about Congressman Lewis' incredible life experiences. We also talk about the role and the responsiblities of someone who decides to serve in the US Congress.  After the conversation, my son was definitely inspired!

I look forward to hearing your inspirational stories. Please share in the comments below.
