Announcing our 21 Day Financial Fast

Get the book, 'The 21 Day Financial Fast' by Michelle Singletary. Coach Angela is moderating  a spiritually based financial fast beginning on Saturday, July 1, 2017.

In “The 21-Day Financial Fast: Your Path to Financial Peace and Freedom,” financial advisor and Washington Post columnist Michelle Singletary outlines the “financial fast,” a sort of money diet that promises to break bad spending habits, create a plan to become debt free, and set yourself on a better financial course for the future. While on a financial fast, you can’t spend any unnecessary money – at all. Unless it’s food, shelter, or something else essential to survival, you’re committing to making do with what you already have.

It's not about what you can't have during the fast, it's about the relationship with money. We are going on a financial fast to become aware of our actual needs versus all of the stuff we want.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE?

We...

Happy Father's Day to Men Who Stand in the Gap

holidays Jun 18, 2017

I am grateful for the men who choose to live their lives as positive examples for my son to follow. You are truly appreciated.

Sometimes I notice my son paying attention to influential men. I imagine in his mind he is determining what characteristics and skills he wants to emulate.  My 12 year old is a spiritually based, kind, verbal, intellectual pre-teen who possesses a keen spirit of discernment.

Rest assured that all of his material needs such as food, shelter and creature comforts  are met. He is a confident young man, who has a personal spiritual relationship with God.  He understands morally right and wrong at the level you would expect a pre-teen to understand.  I see him becoming more and more independent and responsible each day.

It is quite amazing to watch his transformation baby to toddler to preteen.  Realizing that the next 12 years will fly by just as fast as the previous, I choose to be more intentional about the influence I...

We remember the few who've served, fought and died

holidays May 25, 2017

Since the founding of our great nation, we've stood on the shoulders of the few troops who've served, fought and died for us.

Memorial Day is a time we pause to honor our nation's war dead.  It is indeed a privilege to be an American citizen and therefore know and experience liberty. I was born in the late 1960's under the watch of the Vietnam era veterans who were drafted; meaning they did not volunteer to serve in the US Armed Forces. We experience liberty because of them and all of the brave men and women before them who've served, fought and died on foreign soils and within our borders.

During this article, we will not debate:

  • Whether the wars and conflicts were justified, won, or conducted above reproach
  • Whether the wars and conflicts were in accordance with the constitution
  • The character of those who burn American flags and effigies
  • The legal rights of those who choose not to stand when the National Anthem is played
  • The number of people wishing to immigrate to the...

Give me my flowers while I live

holidays May 10, 2017

It's Mother's Day and I miss my mother.

In the USA, Mother's day is celebrated the second Sunday in May. It is a day where we honor maternal bonds, motherhood, and a specific woman who nurtured and cared for us.

Mother's day is celebrated in over 40 countries.  Instead of saying 'hello' and 'goodbye' we greet women in kindness by saying 'Happy Mother's Day'.  I realize that it's kinda crazy to assume that most women have nurtured a child at some point in her life.  Early in the month of May we begin to to see retail reminders of Mother's day and begin to hear references of Mother's day on social media and in our social circles.

During this time of the year, I tend to retreat to a place of lack and loss.  I seem to focus on the current feeling of being physically without my loving Hattie Mae who died six years ago.  Intellectually I understand that focusing on the fact that she was an amazingly loving, caring, attentive nurturer adds more value...

Gain Goal Clarity in Four Steps

achieving goals Apr 18, 2017

Over the past few months, I have been helping clients who start lots of projects and for one reason or another don't complete them.  They see others achieving goals similar to the ones they dream of achieving one day. Some of them are overwhelmed with the number of activities they have planned in any given day.  Some see everything as a priority, whereas some allow everyone else's priorities to come before theirs.

After working with my clients to identify their priorities and what they value, I adapted a technique I learned from another coach on determining the effect and long lasting impact of achieving our goals.

At any given time we have successes and wins occurring within different areas of our lives.  At the very same time we may be stuck in a few areas of our lives.

Its a bit frustrating when you have a vision without willpower, support, and knowledge to push through barriers.

You will only need two things to start the...

The formula for a good life is T-R-G; Time, Relationships and Gratitude.

2017 winning or learning Apr 04, 2017

I remember being excited to leave my childhood home after high school graduation and finish college degree. I was eager to move forward in life without truly understanding what I now know is absolutely true; it is better to live my life for a great eulogy and not necessarily for a great resume.

Being born in the late 60’s, graduating from high school and college in the 80’s.  We were inundated with 24 hour news, talk shows, marketing blitz, social media, plastic skinny celebrities.  We watched tv shows like “Dallas” and “The Cosby Show”, we said things like, “Where’s the Beef?” and “I’ll be back” like Arnold Schwarzenegger. In our 20ies and 30ies, we lived our lives for a resume….attempting to gain, power, prestige and position, the things we could get, the places we could go.  With the luxury of experience my perspective has broadened to focus on living my life for a great...

8 steps to make the remainder of 2017 fabulous

2017 life coach Mar 19, 2017

Take charge of the remaining months of 2017 by carving out time to manifest what you want, with a little help from Life Coach Angela M. Odom

I started the New Year off with expectation and incredible focus, then life got in the way and I began focusing my energy and time on the ever changing political landscape.  For about 30 days I was engaged in provocative conversations with strangers on the internet, glued to C-SPAN, and reacting to every tweet from our newly elected leader.  I was focusing on all manner of unproductive things until I reminded myself that what I focus on expands. Boo-Yah!  I imposed an intervention on myself, stopped being cynical, engaged in some extreme self-care and decided to focus on what I know works for me and mine; gratitude, responsibility and accountability.
The sound bites of the 24/ 7 news cycle are designed to create some type of allegiance to a specific global news network or branded public figure in an effort to...

The 6 things I learned from 6 people in 2016

2017 winning or learning Jan 30, 2017

I take pride in being a lifelong learner. Six people taught me six significant lessons during 2016. My mindset is unapologetic; I believe we are either winning or learning.  I simply do not believe in losing. If I were to subscribe to the mentality where you are either winning or losing, I believe we decrease the opportunity to grow. Besides, isn't that what this life experience is all about?  Getting to the next hurdle, moving forward, discerning whether something is a molehill or a mountain.

As I did last year, I reflected on the previous year and noticed who I learned the most profound lessons from based on how their actions changed my perspective or motivated me to move forward.  That article is appropriately titled, "The 6 things I learned from 6 people in 2015".

I retired from the greatest Army on the planet in August 2015, published my first book in 2016, became a certified Life Coach in early 2017, and finally learned how to be present in the...

Do you prefer presence over presents?

2016 holidays Dec 19, 2016

Shout out to folks who love, love, love this time of the year.

Some folks radiate goodness and kindness (now we all have our ups and downs). They are intent on lifting others and living positive lives. They know it's not about how many church services they attend, it's about having a personal relationship with their God. My Christ filled Facebook Friends range from bible toting, scripture quoting ministry leaders to folks who are quietly talking to their God on a daily, weekly, monthly and / or annual basis.

I am a Christian all of the time. I am not concerned with whether you think I am Christian enough or religious enough. I am enough; destined for greatness and unapologetic.

Real Talk: Christmas Day is in a few days.

Many people are putting a lot stuff and things on their credit cards. They are trying to impress, influence, or persuade someone that they care or that they have more dollars than they really do.

Don't get me wrong, I will purchase a few gifts, however I will not...
