Gratitude and Focus

"The difference in the life you have and the life you yearn to have is gratitude and focus" Angela M. Odom

Be grateful for the big as well as the bold.

All days are great days, even though dot, dot, dot and even if dot, dot, dot and even when dot, dot, dot.

Know the difference between your reputation and your character.

Your reputation allows others to see or they happen to see. However, your character is who you really are in a moral, spiritual, literal sense. It's how you show up to your children and your closest family members, friends, enemies and competitors. It's how you show up when you feel disrespected, ignored, and unappreciated as well respected, cherished, and appreciated.

Character is what matters most.

Focus on that which you purport to want, need, and desire.

Where you focus your time, energy and resources is the direction of your life and ultimately the measure of who you are at your core.

The good news is we can...

2018 holidays memorial day May 25, 2018

Memorial Day or Decoration Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is currently observed every year on the last Monday of May, will be held on May 28, 2018. The holiday was held on May 30 from 1868 to 1970.

Presidential Proclamation No. 7315 of May 26, 2000 (65 Fed. Reg. 34907) proclaimed Memorial Day, May 29, 2000, as a day of prayer for permanent peace, and designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as the time to join in prayer and to observe the National Moment of Remembrance

 On Memorial Day, I honor

Major Dwayne Williams, who perished on September 11, 2001 in the Pentagon.

,

Staff Sergeant Lillian Clamens, who perished on October 10, 2007 in Iraq

and Sergeant First Class John J. Tobiason, who perished on November 28, 2007.

Who will you honor at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day 2018 during the National Moment of Remembrance?

November 2017 Update!

update Nov 30, 2017

November is my favorite month of all.

If you know me at all, you know that I am Hattie Mae's baby girl and my favorite title to answer to is 'Ryan's Mom'.

It's been a while since I have provided an update, so I thought this would be the perfect time for an post Army retirement life update.

I love the month of November because of a combination of significant moments of demonstrated love, admiration, and support. Besides November being one of my sister's, one of my God daughter's, one of my closest friends and my birth month as well as the month the nation celebrates military veterans.

November is the month we celebrate Thanksgiving, my mother's favorite holiday. It's simply a love fest all month long!

After being retired from the US Army for two years,  I finally have a vision for my life. I don't actually have the perfect plan. I am willing, however, to fail forward and learn from my experiences.  I am finally able to remain present in the...

Happy Thanksgiving 2017!

holiday Nov 16, 2017

As we prepare to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday with family, friends and loved ones, I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to you and yours. Thanksgiving always falls on the fourth Thursday of November. This year Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November 23.

Traditional Thanksgiving meals:

The traditional Thanksgiving meal revolves around turkey, to the point where Thanksgiving is sometimes colloquially called Turkey Day. The turkey is usually served with cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy. Yams or sweet potatoes are another important part of Thanksgiving dinner and is often served as a side-dish.  Click here for some Thanksgiving Day Recipes.

How is the day celebrated?

Many big cities hold a Thanksgiving Day parade, the most famous of which is the Macy's parade in New York City – an annual pageant of floats, cheerleaders, marching bands and gigantic helium balloons in the shape of cartoon characters including...

Happy Veterans Day 2017

2017 holiday Nov 11, 2017

"How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!" - Maya Angelou

Happy Veterans Day!

A great big "Thank You" to our military women and men who have served our country with dignity and honor. Thank you for your service to our great nation.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VETERANS DAY AND MEMORIAL DAY?
Both holidays were established to recognize and honor the men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday in May, was originally set aside as a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.

While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, which is observed on November 11, Veterans Day is intended to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is...

Hacks and Identity Theft

personal finance Sep 12, 2017

This latest internet hack of Equifax is an eye-opener to the amount of misguided trust we have developed in large corporations over the past few decades. We blindly provide our personal information to insurance companies, hospitals, people who cold call us for charitable donations, grocery stores, schools, and any number of organizations.  Between the most recent hacking news, including the US 2016 elections, the French 2017 election, Gmail phishing scams, bitcon hostage situations, we are being inudated with news of security breaches of corporations and organizations one would think would have be more prepared to withstand such attacks.

When I heard about the Equifax data breach I thought, "Dang, this stuff just got real."

The Equifax CEO provided an update on September 7, 2017. According to Equifax, the breach lasted from mid-May through July. The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances,...

John Lewis inspires you to be great

leadership Aug 17, 2017

Recently I had the privilege to listen to my Congressman, The Honorable John Lewis, U. S. Congressman, from Georgia's 5th District address a packed room of engaged citizens.

John Robert Lewis is an American politician and is a prominent civil rights leader. He is the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district, serving since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation.

Afterwards, he patiently posed for pictures with various groups of people; including kids, teachers, members of the military, senior citizens, elected officials, and others.  It was inspiring to observe how John Lewis engaged with so many diverse people and seemed to make everyone around him feel special.

He simply inspires you to be great by sharing his personal story of triump, perserverance and integrity.

I was fortunate to be able to take a photo with my Congressman.

When Congressman Lewis posed with some members of the military, I shared with The...
